It began about 2000 years ago - the roman general Drusus, he was the adopted son of imperior Augustus, recognized the important interest of a fast connection between the north parts and the mediterannean sea. Therefor he built a mountain pass in the alps - the via augusta. The via augusta had a construction time of 60 years. With it the romans created the first pass over the Fern- and Reschenpass.

Today the via augusta afford for bikers one of the most notable alpine crossings.
The scenic contrasts along the whole bike path are formidable. The start is in Augsburg and ends in Bozen.
